It's a totally different ballgame down here mate. The outgoing data is free and un-metered. Whatever the box can handle. We get charged for incoming data, and so that must be passed on.
Whilst it may not be the perfect environment for shared/virtual hosting (and explains why very few people actually venture into the hosting market down here without using US based servers), it's perfect for a web developer/software house looking for a base for their data and to not have to worry about data transfer.
And if someone was going to be uploading more than a GB a month to their own server, it's always possible to work around this, with the Aussie provider obtaining that data (download/CD in the mail) and putting it on the server for a fee which makes it feasible.
It's a unique situation, but it's very workable.
