If you want to have a professional image for your company, you should have a professional billing/support system. WHMCS is both in one. Setting up a temporary billing system to online then change later down the road will annoy your customers. Customers don't like change a whole lot.

If you're not making enough for the $15/month price tag on a billing and support tool, then I'd suggest using just regular email for the 5 clients you do have. $15/month is a VERY low price for the amount of automation you get from the system. I understand keeping costs low when you're first starting out, but don't skimp on the basics. Get a $150 loan from a friend, bank or parents so that you have the software you need in order to start your business.
