If you plan to accept CC transactions you need a SSL certificate. End of story.

Its not totally necessary at the beginning of a company, but you should definitely look into getting one asap. You can get a rapidssl or positivessl for around $15/year

Ssl certificate is only needed if you process credit cards directly in your websites.

If youre only using paypal or other payment gateways you dont require ssl encryption in your website since those companies are in charge of making the process.

Moreover if your clients pay with credit card through paypal, youre not require to use ssl certificate because is paypal the one who is processing the card.

Even if you don't process the payments directly on your site, you should still have an SSL cert for when the customer uses your support interface, or things like that.

Quite honestly, any business without an SSL cert runs the risk of making themselves look cheap, unreliable, and unsafe, no matter how legitimate they may be.

I would still say its best to have one, especially when you've got customers entering personal information (name, address, email, passwords, etc).

Ask yourself the question: "would I submit my personal information on a site that does not have SSL?".

SSL is required. Really, there is a high number of possible customers who care about that. Encryption is welcome always online.

Well.. Yes, you should have a SSL certificate for your site, but you only can have it for your billing area.. or client area. You don't have to have it for your main site.

additional to all advices above I guess providing ssl connection will also give peace of mind for you and your client. Because when they pay you thru unsecured connection then its now your duty to give them the merchandise even you did not received the payment coz its you facility failing.

Credit Card or no credit card, you should always use SSL for your billing and support systems.

Sensitive/personal info is there in terms of account passwords, address, email, cell number.

An SSL certificate ensures safe, easy and convenient Internet shopping. As the shopping site's SSL certificate enables the browser and Web servers to build a secure, encrypted connections.

Hello,

Even if you're payment is processed by paypal which is encrypted. I suggest you get SSL because your clients information when they key-in or register to your website needs to be encrypted also. This adds protection for your clients and also trust from them that you're not just another fraud web hosting / websites...

There are a lot of cheap ssl you can get there.. You can try to use Rapid SSL less than $15 / year.

Thanks!
