Hostbill is the best alternative for WHMCS.

Best is to use custom codes as we do. Best benefit will be like having features what we need exactly. This way you can introduce new kind of billing such as per minute / per hour like some cloud hosting providers do

Is there no ready-to-use software on the market that has that ability to offer per minute / per hour billing? I am surprised.

you can use billable items in WHMCS and then set the cron to run every minute or hour and invoice on the next cron run

Hostbill and Ubersmith support this already. WHMCS isn't all that focus for the cloud consumers yet!

IMO, Blesta is hands down, the next best thing to WHMCS. It's feature rich, has a nice graphical interface, easy to use and works with various different hosting platforms.

EuroVPS started out with Modernbill, Then switched to Swsoft HSPC and now Hostbill. Hostbill does everything we need.

It also depends on what your core business is. IF you mainly do VPS's With Cloudstack then Hostbill has it nailed.

If you are a dedicated Server Provider, then Ubersmith has that arena pretty well taken care of.

The next solid contender to WHMCS is definitely Blesta, hands down. They are currently working on releasing version 4 with a lot of new features. If we were to start new we wouldn't think twice about using Blesta, migrating in the future might also be an option.

No it's not. Blesta couldn't even come close to a 'contender' for WHMCS.
