NTT’s second Silicon Valley DC

Telecommunications provider NTT America announced that it has added a second 15,000-square feet data center in Silicon Valley, to cater toward managed and colocation services. Some of its features include carrier-class uninterruptible and back-up power, and 24-hour security features. It also has commitments for network and power availability that pass ASHRAE standards.

Upsite educates students on green data center design

Upsite Technologies hosted a group of university students from Korea called Eco²st. The company presented them with the best practices for building a green data center, including cooling and airflow science. The four-person Korean team, one of fifteen chosen applicants in a research proposal competition, will present their findings to LG.

CoreSite to expand and make Reston DC more efficient

CoreSite announced its plan to expand its Northern Virginia data center in Reston. The expansion is scheduled to be completed later this year. This will reinforce energy efficiency that includes water-side economization and 95 percent-efficient UPS units. Previously, the company announced the completion of its Chicago data center.

HostDime’s opens its new data center in Brazil

A 5,000 square-foot data and network operations center located at Brazil has been completed for HostDime. The new data center provides reduced costs and better accessibility. A place for a new DC (at João Pessoa, Paraíba) was chosen based on it having no prior earthquakes or hurricanes.

Fortune Data Centers receives incentive award

Fortune Data Centers received an incentive award worth $900,000 from PG&E due to improvements in energy efficiency that it set in its green data center launched four months ago. An independent engineering firm provided Fortune and PG&E estimates of energy savings.

Baronyx is building a wind powered data center

A 28,000 square-foot data center, fully powered by wind, will be built in Stratford, Texas for Baronyx.  It will initially be powered by 150 onshore wind turbines. Each of those turbines are capable of producing between 3.3 to 6 MW of power. 450 additional turbines will be added later in the Gulf of Mexico.

Rackspace’s Chicago data center

An announcement has been made by Rackspace Hosting that it has leased a facility in Chicago for a new data center. The size of the rented space is 36,700 square feet and it operates with 5.633 megawatts of critical load. It will go online later this year.

Unisys takes Starbucks DC to China

Unisys Corporation won a 2-year contract to provide Starbucks with data center services. It enables the coffee giant company to work with just a single vendor for its data center support and service desk. The DC, surprisingly, is located in China and this news allows Starbucks to expand its existence in China.

Attenda launches its third UK data center

Attenda has launched its third data center in the United Kingdom. It accommodates the company’s large cloud computing platform called Attenda RTI. The facility is also independent of the other two data centers under company management. The new DC features a virtualization platform that increases agility while reducing the cost of operating client infrastructures.

Regatta Solutions to offer IBM’s DC management services

Regatta Solutions, a DC infrastructure solutions provider announced the launch of IBM’s Integrated System Managed Services, a server management services wrapped around a virtualized core infrastructure, full redundancy, highly scalable and quick deployment.
