Oracle has completed the $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems. As a result of this deal, close to 2,000 people will be laid off (out of approximately 28,000 working around the world). Most experts believe the deal will provide Oracle with an edge in the information systems market.
IBM is out shopping again. After acquiring acquired Cognos, a Canadian software developer, last year for $5 billion, the technology giant made an offer to buy Sun Microsystems for at least $6.5 billion or double its closing price of $4.97.
