I have used Alexa in the past to monitor HTTP, POP and SMTP if I remember correctly. I havent used any desktop based monitoring tools before.

Hi,

If you are Linux savvy then there is nothing like Nagios. If you are looking for something that runs on Windows platform, check out Servers Alive.

I've used both and am very happy with the results.

Just wanted to point out that this thread is a little old.

On topic...
We use our own software.

We use Nagios and Hyperspin. You can never be to complete on making sure the servers are up and running as they should.

we have multi-location Centreon boxes monitoring our network infrastructure. It is basically Nagios but with a better front end, and user management.
