Not allways true :p
I know someone who has an office with all thoat crap in it, but then again its an office inside a data center

To me, a datacenter is no less than 1 full rack with redundant connections, cooling, power and fire surpressant systems.

At least that's my opinion.

Hi HD,

All our servers are in my town house basement running off of six mags comcast cable. Well atleast that is what people say. I have yet to see it.

I feel as if both an office or any short of building could be a datacenter. As long as the measures are put forth keep keep client information safe and sound. The servers must be well maintained and the connectivity must be good. I guess it really could be someones basement.

A Data center to me is a building with high speed lines keeping your servers runing.

A Datacenter to me is a place that not only offers a fast connection for their servers (DS3+), but offers guaranteed uptime with UPS backups and gas powered generators, in case the worse happens.

24/7 support on systems in case they crash or if a switch goes down would also qualify as a datacenter.

If someone is running a server farm in their basement on a DS3 connection, and has power redundancy, I guess you could call it a Datacenter

Hello,

Defination of datacenter:

a physical structure, usually a stand-alone building, that is designed to house a multiplicity of computers. Data centers can be private, serving a single company or, more commonly, a public “utility” serving a variety of companies.

Well a datacenter usually is a place which sells complex computer machines for commericial purposes. They go huge backup lines to get these comps online and make it globally accessble.

For example you can check ev1servers.net, one the huge and pioneer datacenter.

Thank you.

Regards,

The key words in the definition of a datacenter is "protection" from unfavourable environmental conditionsand "management" of servers, and it's not important whether one company owns it or several. I tend to think it can't be in the basement just because it's not isolated, thereforwe can't be completely protected.
