Today internet is so popular and borderless, people do business worldwide and hosting company comes from many countries. As we know US company are expanding and open up data centre Indian, China, Malaysia and Singapore to capture the new growing market. Frankly speaking cost in these countries is much lower and hosting company is making good income if they offer the same rate as US counterpart. They still make good money if the offer the same price as US counterpart.

I usually buy servers in the US and have had accounts on servers in the UK but not for a while.

The market I tend to target is both US and UK mainly. Hence the reason for the choices of server location.

I think companies over in India make some good money as wages are lower and over in India (just as an example) they have some very commited people who are good at what they do. They can buy servers in the US, host clients in the US and make nice profits.

Our company has an office over in India and I was a bit skeptical about it all till we saw the work that they did and I was impressed.

There are no boundries really

Hi,

The best thing is to host in a country where visitors are coming from. However if you have a international site I'd recommend to have it on a US server. Also one should keep in mind that Search Engines give value to geographical location for local searches, as a example if your site is in a UK server and if you move it to a US server you could experience a drop in UK SE (search Engine) visitors.

Yep! I wonder if there is a way around that as many sites can have visitors from both locations.

We offer US & UK servers, we started out with just US, but have added UK due to SEO requirements of our customers. Until the search engines find a reliable mechanism to determine the target audience, then I guess we have to host where the spiders expect to find us.

Well we have 2 data centers in 2 different Countries.
One in Canada & One In USA.

We refuse to have a data centre in high risk areas or known natural disater areas.
Including New York, Flordia and many many other countries including allot of locations like India.

I suggest when looking for a host, investigate "VERY CAREFULLY" where they have their servers.

I am saying this because right after the Sept 11 "911" disater we adopted an additional 350 customers who lost all of their websites, emails and data.

silvermoon is right - host your site where most of your visitors will be coming from. If your business is in the US, get a US-based host. If you do business in Europe, go with a server based in Europe.

Then, when the money starts to roll in and you want to extend, you can focus on multi-hosting.

But not always hosting in such countries as China and India is reliable.

Agree with you here. I'd never trust hosting from these countries.

US Infrastructure is one of the best in the world then comes Europe. But Asia will take few years to have such infrastructure.

I find that South Africa is a tough one to deal with as their bandwidth providers are quite expensive still and the main ISP seems to dominate the market. We get most connectivity issues from clients in China and SA. However, I am not sure how their servers perform in those countries for those countries.

Performance of servers will be always good as long as the traffic is inside the country.

Can anyone explain to me why open up datacenters somewhere far away where you can't control maintainance? I understand when support is outsourced, even here there are lots of pluses and minuses, what is gained by this policy?

I may be rather conservative, but I don't understand why to choose hosting somewhere other than in NA? It's cheap, quality and the number of hosts to choose from is really huge, which means positive competition.
