Guys, I'd like to ask your opinion of .me domain name extension. *******.com has started a Landrush period for this domain and I'd like to know if it's worth anything. S
hare your thoughts please.
Thanks in advance!

I am not a major fan of other countries' domain extensions )I think there is lower value in them). However, ".ME" (for Montenegro) stands out from the likes of ".LI" or ".CZ". There is obvious motives and owning "JohnSmith.ME" or "Host.ME" could be very cool. An underlying factor is the cost - what does it cost every year to maintain (I haven't found out that information just yet). But I certainly think there is value in big generic dictionary names. Worth the risk.

I think such a domain name - hostyoursitewith.me wold be very cool.
Guess if you develop a domain name in the right way, it'll be very profitable. Now it's a good period to reg unique domains with *******.com.

I definitely think with proper marketing and a good idea you could go far as they are cute and could be catchy, but for the average user it could not be worth the cost (depending on the cost and difficulty acquiring one).

Interesting. Could you please share the experience whether the .me domain extension is a more challenging extension to get good search engine ranking and positioning with? If you have experience with a .com, how do you compare the two? In my mind, I think a lot of search engines might still discriminate against extensions like that in providing them with good search results listings...

I think that a .me extension is worth reg or less than reg fee. These domain extensions do not compare with .com.

I was always under the impression that the extension didn't matter in the eyes of the SEs. I thought the whole reason why people push .com so highly is because it is the first one most people think of and try when typing in a name. It's getting harder and harder to find the .com name that you want (keyword specific, at least) so I would think more people will be turning to alternative extensions.

Hmm...I bet there's demand for *.me names where the * is replace by a verb.

But, how many search engines still matter these days? If the top 4-5 don't make such discriminations, all's fine. Personally, I don't think that penalizing sites based on the TLD, owner's location etc would make sense for a search engine. Excellent content can come from anywhere.

If using it will help your business, hobby, etc. then I would say go for it. I always try to find a ".com" first but failing that I go a bit farther (.net or .org) before I consider going to a country specific TLD.
