In my opinion, I don’t think it will have a negative impact. If a visitor likes your content they will save your site for their records, or make a note of it. Although, when I do choose to go for long domains, I try to make them a full keyword name.

I prefer shorter domain names as it is easy to remember and people can easily type and remember. Longer domain names ofter confuses people. I would personally recommended shorter domain name.

Thanks,
Steve

I think it depends on how you're defining long/short. I think if you have something that is easy to remember, a long domain name is fine. If your name has lots of / and numbers though, it's not going to be easy for your customers to remember it. That goes for short names too.

What about long domains that make NO sense, like 57freecreditreport.com or 123makebigmoneyonline.com? I see names like these on infocommercials and wonder why?

If it's something creative indicative or the same as the name of your business that people will remember, then I do not think it's that big of an issue.

Defiantly will never visit something like this.

And frankly speaking I do not care about the length. I mean I use either Bookmarks or Ctrl+C -> Ctrl+V. Plus Google always comes in handy if i don't remember the domain name by looking things up for me when i type in the address bar of the Firefox (heh - yeah the best browser ever!)
However customers may have different opinion.

And I actually like the Idea of getting both the long domain (if you need to of course) and the short abbreviation.

Long domains are hard to remember and are easily forgotten, that is if you forget to bookmark the website that you browsed a few days ago. Besides, the hyphens look annoying on the URL browser on my own view. I'd rather go for shorter domains that can be easily remembered and they also get the most traffic from SEO.

I think you are better off with a shorter domain name, if you can think of one that still describes your site well, but is alot easier to remember and read. If you decide to go with a long one, using hyphens is a good idea, as some search engines identify the keywords easier.

I've noticed that too. I'm reading all the responses now.

I have to agree with you. If the domain name flows there is no reason why not to get a large domain name. Just try not to have it look like a spam site.

Hi,
If you are thinking of starting a blog or website then one of the decisions you will need to make is what your domain name will be. Your first step will be to search the internet for tips on choosing a domain name.

There are many opinions about what is the best type of domain name. You can easily spend a whole day simply reading about them all. And in the end you will be nowhere closer to your answer. Such a wide range of opinions usually means that there is no right answer.

But there is one opinion that seems to be quite popular: avoid long domain names. It is argued that they are too hard to remember and people do not like typing them into the address bar. I disagree.

Thanks

I thought I'd read somewhere that every 4 letter combination of words (whether actual words or jumbled) were already registered for .com domains. But if you want a nonsensical 5 letter .com domain it appears there are some left

I agree that domain-names-that-are-keyword-filled.com look weird and spammy; not to mention I recall seeing that keywords in domain names had less relevance in organic rank...

I don't think I could "write" that domain down before the commercial was over
Though I suppose they do them to track since somebssite.com/tvad334 might be even harder for viewers to visit...
