I think that long names are okay so long as they have meaning and like others said, don't look spammy. Hyphens look spammy to me and for most people they are hard to remember which means they won't come back and I think we all want to avoid discouraging a person from coming back to our site.

I think shorter domain name is better. If a person wants to visit your site, they won't have a hard time typing the domain name in the search bar, even though it's a form of sentence or slogan.

The more catchy the better some shorts one are hard to remember while other long ones flow better. Although it works the opposite way as well.

It is better to have a short and easy to remember name, so user can memorize your domain easily and visit your site frequently. Long name is hard to remember and you probably loss your visitors.

Also from SEO point of view your domain name must contain your main keywords that will also help in search engine optimization.

Long and short is not the real fact i think. You may select such which can be memorized easily.

Very long domains are never considered as a professional domain

In the end, long domains will only hurt your business. You need something short and memorable.

Can you explain why? I know quite a few examples when longer domains actually serve as an advantage to web hosting companies for certain keywords. Think about it, if you are a client of a company, the name of the company becomes irrelevant. You will visit the site's customer portal regardless of how long the name is.

If the longer domain name makes logical sense, then usually no problem. I've seen some pretty strange domain names and often wondered how the heck they came up with that?

this is only true if you pick something sketchy like best-value-for-buck-hosting.com

if your name is genuinely longer.. how would that hurt?

I guess it depends on what the domain looks like. If the hosting provider i using something like
the-very-best-web-hosting-on-the-planet.com you can see how spammy that looks.
