Hey Everyone,

Does anyone know what the cost to a registrar is for a .co.uk domain?

I just saw a press release quoting a price for .co.uk domains at £2.50 per year. Since the lowest price I've seen lately is £2.99 per year - that makes me wonder if that is actually below the wholesale price from Nominet.

Anybody know?

Here's the original release link:

Thanks for your help.

We pick them up at $4.49 which is about £2.80 - so it's possible that they're selling below market in order to attract the buyers.

Don't know if that's below their cost, but if so, it could be a loss leader.

£2.50 per year seems quite reasonable, if someone selling below cost that means the profit is hidden somewhere.

Domain registrars used to offer .co.uk web addresses on 2 year subscription. I have use 123reg at the time. They are fine, so you can check them. But be advised that there are plenty of low cost registrars, so you can probably find better deal.

According to the PR it was the low price on domains, no restrictions on the number of domains you wanted to register. It does require a 2 year registration, but there are no requirements for web hosting (at least nothing they've published on their page). Information regarding the January Special can be found here: http://www.34sp.com/domains

I guess there would be hefty price for renewal.

That's an interesting thought-and a good way of making your money. Give people two years to build up a beautiful, money making site and then charge them heaps to keep the domain they worked so hard on building.
