In my opinion, ANtivir of Avira is by far the best free antivirus solution.
For a security suite (antivirus+firewall+others), Comodo internet security is the best suite, even from between paid ones I've used so far. It's so flexible, low on resources and....FREE

I used to use Norton and it was stifling my system. I thought I had too many files or something. I uninstalled Norton and my system was fast again. I switched to Avast and am very happy with it, and it' s free.

Never heard of it to be honest. I use McAfee works great, AVG is another nice one we use on a few computers.

With a quick scan of the thread I haven't seen this mentioned so thought I would throw it out. As well as my antivirus, I use MalwareBytes too. I have found nothing better at cleaning for instance rogue antivirus programs off neighbour's machines and getting the stuff that the AV programs miss.
