Hi,
Bumped against Softaculous yesterday:
http://www.softaculous.com/
We host Installatron with Direct Admin.
Softaculous looks better and it has 138 scripts.
What do you guys think ?
Is it worth it to buy Softaculous for more servers ?

I have never heard of Softaculous before, but it does look promising.
I wonder if there is anyone around who uses their software who can comment.

I actually have all three(fantastico De Luxe, Softaculous, and Installatron).
I'm not sure which my clients use but it's nice as all three offer different software apart from the normal ones(PHP-Nuke, phpBB, and such).
I find all three to work nice.

We've been a Fantastico fan for many many years, but when we discovered Softaculous last year (or the year before) we were very interested. Originally the plan for the software was to go head to head against Fantastico and be a 100% free option. Many of my installations on servers are STILL free, however last year they decided that they'd have a FREE version and a PRO (paid) version with many more scripts.
I do like that Magento is part of the installation scripts (something that has been requested with Fantastico for at least 3 year and NEVER delivered upon), however the downside is that Softaculous has more than 110 scripts and creates confusion for the customer at the end of the day.
I've never used Installatron before, but we do use the other two on a regular basis.

Softaclulous looks pretty cool. I want to try it out but installatron and fantastico have by far been in the game longer.

We've been offering Softaculous alongside with Fantastico for about 5 months now, and I must say they get better and better every month. The feature I really like is that if you have a script already installed lets say through Fantastico and the same script exists in Softaculous you can simply import it into Softaculous and update against the latest version. That is really cool.
We started to offer it with our VPS and dedicateed Servers two months ago and so far I only got good feedback from our customers.

Another nice feature is that you can offer your own custom scripts through Softaculous which can not be done in many of the other popular script installers. This makes it very handy should you have custom compiled scripts for your users, or shopping carts and forums etc. We saw a rush from people needing a Live Chat program installed, so we made our own custom script for the install, and away it went. Hasn't been included by Softaculous yet, but I'm sure in the near future it will. Meanwhile we can now provide that same one click install TODAY for our customers.
They have a FREE and PAID version. My thoughts on the free version is that they don't include the things people REALLY want to install (wordpress, phpbb, magento) - so for the most part, the free version is useless in that regard.
Definitely worth checking out.
Fantastico, while it's been the front running for so many years, the support and updates of software have really taken a downward spiral. I'd love for them to just SELL the company to someone who can bring it back to what it used to be 4 years ago when it dominated the web - but that's what happens when a company stands still and just lives on the fact that nobody else makes it.

Softaculous gets my vote, more customers are looking for softaculous than fantastico / installaron. It is cheap and contains bunches of scripts with easy installer.

Softaculous
Recently removed Installatron completely and shifted over to Softaculous for good.

We offer all three and installatron seems to be the one people want right now, although I prefer softculous, probably because its so much cheaper

We are pretty satisfied with Installatron. They have been very fast when it comes to application updates.

I think from all three alternatives:
fantastico De Luxe
Softaculous
installaron
Really best one is Fantastico and then comes Softaculous right after.

How do you rank Fantastico higher than Softaculous given that Softaculous has 4 times as many scripts, is CHEAPER than Fantastico and they put out updates a lot more frequently than Fantastico ever did? Also, any client who previously had a host using Fantastico and installed their scripts etc, there's an easy conversion button in Softaculous so they don't lose any of their settings when they want to upgrade etc.
Don't get me wrong, I've used Fantastico on our servers for many many years (at least 8 or 9 I think), but the person operating Fantastico rarely makes updates any more and sadly so many of the scripts on there are now at a security risk because they failed to update things

Softaculous offers more features than installatron.
But they said that installatron is much more stable
and consume less resource.
