I always follow layer2.cpanel.net and didn't pay much notice until now.

After the 10.8.x Build was done to death. STABLE, RELEASE, CURRENT, BETA moved to 10.9.0-1.

However the EDGE build went from something like 10.8.x-EDGE_490 to 11.0-Edge_500

Anyone know why?

Not sure why they choose this release type.
What I do know is that they seriously screwed up on the latest "stable" release in regards to server to server transfers.
Hopefully they will fix this issue.

The prior release is the one that had problems.
I haven't tested the one release last night yet.

Yes I was able to do some server transfers with the latest stable release and I also had major issues with this on the last release.

10.9 + 1 = 11
The edge is using Apache 2 and some other major things.

From my post and at the time 10.8+1 doesn't equal to 11

cPanel/WHM Versioning Explained:

There are 4 major builds of cPanel/WHM: EDGE, CURRENT, RELEASE and STABLE (in order from least to most thoroughly tested). There's others (such as BETA (B) ) but those are typically not used.

EDGE (E) is not recommended for production environments as it has minimal testing. However, it's great for development environments as it has all the new features in cPanel/WHM that will eventually propagate to the other builds.

STABLE (S) is the most conservative of the builds. As of posting, all of our builds are on version 11, but STABLE is still on version 10 since version 11 hasn't been thoroughly tested sufficiently for our Quality Assurance staff to approve it being released to STABLE. However, you are sacrificing new functionality for software stability. As a result, the functionality available in STABLE tends to be a little outdated.

CURRENT (C) and RELEASE (S) are also production-worthy builds. RELEASE is the build you install by default when you first install cPanel/WHM. This build is sufficiently stable and has enough new functionality to satisfy the majority of our customer base. However, those desiring newer functionality and willing to put up with some minor bugs here and there can use CURRENT. Think of CURRENT as a balance of the stability of RELEASE with the new functionality of EDGE.

When you login to WHM, you will typically see multiple versions such as:

WHM 11.2.0 cPanel 11.8.0-B15887
CENTOS Enterprise 4.5 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0

The first number indicates the version of the WHM software whereas the second version indicates the version of cPanel. Typically when people ask what version are you running, they are asking for the cPanel version number, in this case B15887, where B stands for Beta. The 15887 is the build number, a way of tracking which version of cPanel 11 you are using so you know if you are up-to-date with bug fixes or not.

Following that on the second line is information about the OS and eventually the theme you are running in WHM. In this case, I am running the WHM X theme version 3.1.0.

Hopefully this answers your questions .
