Read this on thewhir,
Google now has 6 billion items consists of 4.28 billion Web pages, 880 million images, 845 million Usenet messages as well as growing collection of book-related information pages.

WOW thats massive!!
Imagine trying to add that many things yourself...It really is a huge amount of data.

Wonder what google would be worth

Google is great, just think what the net would be like without search engines, it would be really hard to find information so its a great source

I would have expected google to have a LOAD of servers too because it has so much data to store and a huge amount of bandwidth..
ANyone know how googles bandwidth works?
Ie. they couldnt be using their own bandwidth for spidering all the sites and for searches could they?
That would cost a HUGE amount of money, dont think even the ads could cover that

Google have lots of servers. There are pages you can visit to run a search across each server in the farm and compare the results.

Google dancing often unsyncs the servers so you get different results depending on the server you hit in their DC.
