I was in the hospital the other day and just looking around from the bedside made me wonder how depressing it actually is. There are tubes everywhere, things going bleep, lights flashing (it reminds me of star trek). Next you have the people left and right of you coughing and spluttering away as if there is no tomorrow.

If i didn't have some form of entertainment to shut this out, i would have probably have gone mad.

Any one else feel the same?

Yes, especially in the emergency rooms. People on carts everywhere because there are not enough beds. It is funny I talked to a nurse the other day and they mentioned how they are supposed to give x amount of time per patient. But they are given so many patients that for the math to work out they would need to huddle 3 patients at a time to give them care. It really is depressing.

And don't let any one kid you, it is worse outside of the US.

Well, here you have to bribe the staff (all ranks), if you want them to do at least a half decent job. There are of course exceptions, people with a passion for what they do, but like in all walks of life, for most, this is little more than a job.

I find NHS is good in smaller quiet areas and horrible in busy cities as they deal with so many people. Private is great if you need a quick operation to get you back on your feet and back to work.

I think whenever you are in the emergency, you are absolutely indifferent to what happens around you.

You may be unable to feel/act, but you'd totally care. You're at your most vulnerable state. Every little thing matters then, especially things that can affect the quality of the medical service you're about to receive. Just my opinion.
