A few years back I used the same password for almost everything on the web: forums, hosting server, PayPal, Gmail, Ymail, social networks... This is the most stupid thing someone can do. Because once some hacker steals your password on some site he will check all popular sites with that password in combination with your name. Luckily I wasn't robbed in that way but I know quite a few people that were.

Wasn't password security somehow related the last big WHT hack?

There are many good password manager.
It would be best to use one of them.

Steve I am not 100% on that, but I would guess something along those lines. WHT hack caused a big stir for many people not realizing how important passwords are.

Just this week alone I know some people have had to be told over again what exactly a strong password is. It is scary to think people are still running around naming their passwords after their household pet, street name, etc.

In our case, we use different and strong password for all different servers and services.

You are not 100% safe of hackers, but you should not make their job easier.

Honestly, roboform kind of scares me a little. I guess I prefer knowing my own passwords and remembering them on my own. Maybe I am a little untrusting as well but I do not think I would be comfy with something like that. Has anyone used it and it worked out okay for them?

I've heard of roboform but also was a bit skeptical about it so I just manually keep track of my passwords in a safe place.

As for the different password issue, this is indeed a risk especially if you use the same username/e-mail on other sites.

You're right, many people out there take passwords for granted and make them very easy to remember, which also makes them weak. If a hacker cracks your eBay password, he will then check PayPal, then your bank's website and everything else in between he can find to see if that password will work again.

That's why I love WHMCS's new feature where it forces your clients to have strong passwords when they register an account.

Now my passwords always reach the allowable limit of characters and I try to achieve the strongest combination of upper-lower case letters, numbers and some other characters. I use KeePass Password Safe mini program to store my passwords which would be impossible to remember otherwise.
