Was just struck with what appears to be an Earthquake in Montreal. It was very unnatural and unpleasant. Looking forward to the news now.

5.5 is something. Not terrifying, but it definitely can be felt.

Are earthquakes rare in that region?

Not common at all. We had another one a few years ago, but at that time the epicenter was in Plattsburg, it was also around 3.5 magnitude. This one definitely was felt in Montreal, Toronto and especially Ottawa - it was just 60 km away.

Have felt earthquakes in California and Missouri and they're no fun. 5.5 is fairly large.

Odd, we had one here in Oklahoma last week. Wonder if that volcano under Yellowstone is about to blow?

No shock felt here in Maine not very far from epicenter. History shows in 1663, 1791, 1860, 1870, and 1925, earthquakes with a magnitude greater than 6 have hit this area. Not common and have not felt one in a long time. We had one here a few years back of 4.2 and that is unheard of for our area. We get them all the time but 99% are to small to feel and the ones you can feel are around 3.0 and that size you can miss very easy.
