I've reinstalled Windows, tried every possible technique of cleaning registry, defragmenting, virus cleaning, but my computer works incredibly slow! I believe it is something wrong with HD. Any suggestions?

Check your system log in Event Viewer and see if you have any disk I/O issues.

download "Advanced System Care". It's free software. I've used this software on many machines that were grinding to a halt. Many times it's been due to spyware and registry issues, but as plexihost said, you could be having I/O issues or a drive getting ready to fail.

How much free space do you have on your drive? The more data you have, the slower it runs. "good housekeeping" recommendations are to only use 50-70% of a drive and leave the other portions free.

Run a disk check on the drive and verify that you don't have sectors failing etc. When you installed windows, was it lightning fast? (It should have been, unless you have an older computer on top of it all).

Oh, and one other thing - check the FANS on your computer. Make sure that your CPU is not overheating as dust is clogging up your fans. I've seen this happen many times on office computers. A simple can of air and things get back to normal.

OK, here it goes, mu computer is 6 years old (HD is 2 years old). HD is 90% full. I'm downloading Advanced System Care right now and will let you know how it goes. Also, I'm using XP and I have no idea where is the Event Viewer. Fans are clean, just checked and cleaned again. Although temperature in the room is a bit high, this slowdown was going on for months. Also, I'm cleaning the space on HD.

Ok, so even after you re-installed windows, you're still using 90% disk space? Did you just re-install windows on top of what you had, or did you format? It sounds like you just reinstalled over what you had but likely this wouldn't do much good.

I'd honestly look to getting a second drive and copying some of your data to the second drive.

How large is your hard drive? Are we talking about 90% of 80GB or 1TB? And what about memory - how much is installed and what can it be upgraded to? Also speed of your CPU - six years old could be pretty slow by today's standards.

Giving that it's 6 years old, I'm willing to bet the HD is probably 40-80GB.

Either way, the drive using 90% is not good no matter how large the drive is.

I agree with the suggestion to buy another drive and free up some space on that drive.

Well, he said the hard drive was 2 years old, which makes me suspect it now has a much larger drive. I do agree offloading some data will help (probably a lot), but there could still be other factors affecting the overall speed of his computer.

Ok, your CPU speed is incredibly slow by today's standards. Checking and tweaking your bios settings may help some. The next logical question would be, how long have you noticed this problem?

The CPU in my workstation is 3Ghz with 2GB RAM and I consider this slooooooooow compared to my home computers.

How many times have you reinstalled windows. If you do it a certain way it saves a bit back to the hard drive unless you totally wipe it. If those stack up they can eat your drive up. With 90 % you are going to be slow and really the cheapest and quickest thing to do is replace the hard drive.

I agree with Steve, your CPU is really outdated. I may have worked fast in he past, but as software becomes more and more demanding (as it has) your CPU just can't keep up.

On the bright side, it's a good excuse to go shopping for a new PC or at least a mobo/CPU upgrade.

It depends what you use it for, what OS you're using, what features you have enabled. For office type of work, and Internet browsing, old computers can do fine. They won't be breaking records, but they should do the job.
