I'm all about discipline and respect when it comes to raising my own children, but this is beyond unacceptable, specially from a teacher.

Note the camera man/women laughing in the background as well.. Sick.

My Mom's Catholic Nun's at her grade school would routinely punish students by slapping a ruler across their hands, and I experienced the same in the 3rd grade. Even when I went to public grade school here, our teachers used some pretty vicious custom made paddles to punish unruly students. This video was certainly disturbing.

When I went to school in Ireland, I routinely got hit with the ruler for not turning in homework etc. 5 slaps on the palm of the hand was the punishment. I was also picked up off the ground by my ears by the principal for a "crime I did not commit". I just happened to be in the presence of an event that I did not even know was happening, yet I got the blame.

Unlike kids today, I was also hit with a wooden spoon, spanked with a cane and received the belt on various occasions.

While the images may be shocking to some in todays society, back then, this was the normal. Spanking is still permitted in Ireland, and the ruler is still used by teachers.

It's really sad to see that most of you have also experienced something similar... I had a religious freak (catholic) for a teacher when I was in the 4th-5th grade, and she would also use a ruler to slap our hands (nothing like in this video though). It might have been more socially acceptable back in the day, but it was still abuse if you ask me. These are merely babies, that should be singing the ABC's...

My wife is a teacher herself as well, and when she saw this video, she literally started crying and walked away from it.

What I find pathetic is the way he blames the January 25 revolt. I can imagine this was a traumatic time for many in the country and that the popular media has editorialised the times as 'jolting' and 'unsettling', an nation untethered from its traditions etc.. SO, to defend himself, he blames the social upheavals for his own petty bullying. How pathetic!

While I'm not against a good spank on the bottom for children, it should only be administered by parents. I don't feel as though teachers and other authority figures shouldn't have the right to punish children in this way.

what was the kid doing to deserve the punishment though. I think there would be alot less problems in school if kids new there was a real punishment for acting out. If a kid who is a trouble maker gets in trouble you get out of school suspension and they get a day or 2 off school.

What's the difference what the kid did?
There is NO excuse for the behavior of this teacher.

Of course they would. They are kids.
This is the same argument that the pro death penalty people use. This kind of punishment is not a deterrent. It is just a way for sadists to get their kicks.

It is very bad behavior by teachers now a days. this kind of people have no rights to teach students.
