What's the end story here?

The end story is that Facebook management are just a bunch of immature attention-driven kids.

I have never planned for Facebook to be anything more than a contact management solution. I don't agree with how Facebook is run, I don't like the attitude and the people who run it and I'm disgusted with company's policies. I never did nor will I ever trust Facebook with anything that is important to me. Thankfully, there is now an alternative that respects me and my privacy (as well as of my friends).

Facebook considers your information and those of your friends to be the company property and it is naturally against their Terms Of Service for you to extract this information. Well, suck it, Facebook, you don't own my friends. I was lucky to have used that Chrome extension to extract and transfer all of MY friends' contact information to Google Contacts before they blocked it.

Google+, on the other hand, features a "takeout" functionality which allows you to backup all of your account data across the board, erase any part of it, or all of it, and leave in peace. Google philosophy is that it is your information and you have the right to control it and do as you please with it. It just makes sense.

That said, I will continue using Facebook as backup solution and for benefits of social media benefits, but I will be personally approaching all my connected FB friends with my 6 reasons why they should move to G+.

I can see why Facebook would want to block the export of the data, but that's the whole point of calendars and contacts - to be able to share that content.

Facebook must be really worried about how much G+ will take from them. Personally I don't see it being an overnight success on Google's part - there's a learning curve to begin with and a mind set to change from Facebook mentality to Circles mentality, but it's worth the effort.

Now if only I was able to update certain status updates within Google and have that post to Facebook and twitter (with moderation of course), or the ability to read what was going on in Facebook without having to GO to facebook - I'd be all set

I personally like FaceBook all my friends are on there and I am too lazy to restart at google or manage 2 profiles. Plus i just don't get google plus besides the plus button. The social aspect of it sucks.

Google is stable and consistent and it has world largest database. While the facebook might seems to be now at the position where the google was before five years ago.

I actually don't see the correlation. Just because Facebook does not allow you to backup/take the information with you, doesn't mean I can't use the information on G+. I wasn't saying they need to create a plugin to allow us to easily switch networks - that would be bad business.

I'll be very suprised if google can eventually out do facebook.

+ 10 to this, for me if anyone spending hours at FB is a immature school child/College guy and is long away from professionalism.

I don't agree with this statement. I spend up to 2 hours a day on Facebook doing everything from communicating with clients, potential clients, Facebook Ads and updating company profiles etc on facebook.

If you're not paying attention to all your medium outlets, you're missing out. Much like if you think twitter is just a fad, you're missing out on the revenue and contact stream there too.

Now, if you're on Facebook playing games all day, that's a different story, but that's usually a relaxation time just like a deck of cards, a fine wine, a cigar or an X-Box yields to people on their "off time".

To discount Facebook as a viable medium for clients and potential clients is a big mistake.

I equally do not agree. Professionalism has nothing to do with whether someone is using the platform or not. There are plenty of companies having their pages on Facebook, keeping in touch with their clients, fans and those interested in their products/services. Both users and companies benefit from that kind of a relationship.
