The only con I see with HD is that it's the #2 biggest hosting forum on the web instead of #1 .. But I'm sure one day it will surpass WHT in size as well. Just don't forget about us loyal HD members when that day comes Artashes!

And going by Artashes lengthy (but very interesting) post he clearly has the time and can give a more personal reply. That is definitely a pro. Good stuff.

Who is the owner of WHT anyway? Coolraul? Software Revenue? I think it is Coolraul? Reason: I setup WHTHosts (WebHostingTalk Hosts - Directory) sometime ago but I was sent a friendly PM from SoftwareRevenue asking me to change the name as Coolraul ( I think) didn't approve. I had no problem with that though. So I changed the name from WebHostingTalk Hosts to WebHostingTop Hosts. That was the best name I could come up with HAHA!

To be fair, I learnt a lot of stuff from WHT and got most of my clients from there which has got me clients making repeat orders + many referrals. So +1 to WHT and the other sites I use for that. But then I have spent a fair bit on ads and shared a lot of useful information with other members (also helps with serps/rankings). So kind of equal really.

Like Artashes said, WHT are more strict (corporate like) and are very well known! I remember contacting BusinessLink for some advice and WHT was one of the forums/sites they recommended I use. No mention of HD though? But I'd already been using WHT for sometime. It is good how BusinessLink recommend them in their emails. Maybe HD should ask to be included in the list = more UK startups knowing about HD. Just a thought.

Anyway, this forum seems great.

if you scroll to the bottom of WHT you will see

Copyright 2011 iNET Interactive. and even the TOS and PP goes to iNET Interactives website

so these are who own and run WHT

I meant the one at the top on WHT. Like I said, I think it is Coolraul from iNet.

I only setup the directory for WHT members, that's why I thought it'd be ok. I didn't intend to make money from it. Bit like the WHTFaces one which I think was also run by a member.

Oh OK.

well when i was abused by a WHT member and then it was me disabled for reporting this member while this member is still an active member) i appealed and never got any reply, even contacted iNet and still no reply.
i think they have their favourites who cant do anything wrong and if you report these then they ban you as a trouble maker.

@HostXNow, the owner of WebHostingTalk is iNet Interactive, as was mentioned above. It changed a number of hands since inception, but iNet is the company that owned it for a long time. Although I believe iNet itself was purchased by an investment fund a few years ago.

@HostLeet, as per the well-known advertising slogan crafted by a car rental company AVIS, exactly for the reason that we are #2 - we try harder. http://www.avis.com.cy/We_try_harder.html

Art, your post brought a tear to my eye bro. I agree with 100% of what you just said and I must say, bravo! I couldn't have said it any better myself.

"I've been a member of WHT since 2002 and I don't think I've ever received an infraction or a warning. It is possible that I did receive either of those, but I honestly don't remember. Mind you, I have always been very careful and I've always made sure I knew what the rules were prior to posting. In spite of this, I have always lived with a mentality that I can lose my account privileges at any time. It could be tomorrow, next week or a year from now. I just got used to that style of thinking seeing how others have been getting penalized for something that was taken out of proportion. There was just too much policing and as consequence the forum never made me feel that I was a part of a very friendly family-like community..."

Pull yourself together, romes. Be strong. No crying.

Actually we had a bit of our own various history with iNet. At first, they tried to shut down HD through legal threats made to previous owner. A year or two later when I was already the owner, they inquired about a potential acquisition of HD and a couple of other sites of mine. I wasn't interested in selling as I had ideas of my own at the time. It would not have been worth much back in 2004 anyway.

I'd say that I have never had anything against iNet personally. I respect the company and what they've managed to acquire and build. I just wish they would have been more involved in the actual community lives to get a better sense of what it is like to be a member. Either that or have more information on how the forum is run (from different perspectives).

lol I'll try. Yeah, I am happy you didn't sell to them Art. HD would have been like WHT and went down in quality and it wouldn't be the forum it is today. Hell, they might've just merged the two and just made WHT even bigger.

But, HD will always be better than WHT

I disagree (and as someone who gets labelled as a trouble-maker, have some experience) - yes there are "individual personalities" with each moderator - but the basic rules they operate under are fair and it's always (in my experience) been possible to get into a dialogue with them about anything you disagree with.

I can also say, that despite peoples "thoughts" that advertisers get preferential treatment, they dont, and advertisiers complaining and threatening to take their business elsewhere get the basic answer " where would you like your refund check sent to" !

Have I had infractions @ WHT - yep, plenty.
Have they been justified - sometimes, sometimes not, sometimes arguably
Have I complained about them - occasionally.
Did that help - a few times

Do I get "victimised" or "attacked" or "badly moderated" - No.

I have had the good fortune to meet a number of the mods, inet staff and others involved with WHT on multiple occasions, especially through HostingCon, which I *completely* recommend you all attend if possible.

Remember, Mods are people, and people make mistakes based on their own viewpoints, sleep habits, personal frame-of-mind, home-life and experience - it's not perfect, but it's better than anarchy

So suck it up and get on with your life, the points will expire eventually, just carry on proving your worth by actively contributing to the community

It would have been like a drop in the sea for them. I don't think a lot of members there would have even noticed the merge.

That is what I'd like to do, but the events are always in USA (too far for me, at the moment anyway). They should have one in UK (London). I'd definitely attend then.

I don't mean for any of my posts to look spammy. Sometimes I contribute by writing a lot of content, sometimes I don't depending on mood/time I have. Should you decide to unsuspend my account I'll be MUCH more carful with my posts, which you'll see... should you decide to unsuspend my account.

I like that WHT and HD are separate for a good number of reasons.
