I just saw a video of HEADIS on the Business Insider website, which led me to their website - http://headis.com/index.php?media

I think it's fascinating how precise these players can be heading that ball around a ping pong table.

I for one was not too impressed. Its just a modified ping-pong with heads and a bigger ball, which only makes it even less technical as there are plenty of shots that cannot be saved. I see scarce possibilities of interesting and unusual shots like, for example, sepak takraw which seems like a modification of volleyball with a hacky-sack-like ball but still plenty of drama and amazing comebacks.

I just watched a few sepak takraw matches and found them amazing as well. Headis appears to be very regional and not nearly as popular, but still interesting to watch.

The training to play sepak takraw must be intense. I for one was impressed with both sports.

Sepak Takraw really amazed my as I enjoy playing both hacky sack and volleyball (which seem like close derivatives) and I know how hard is to make 1 of those shots, let alone make a comeback or a continuous move. Those guys are real beasts. And its very regional as well. AFAIK only countries in the Thai/Phillipines region. Sure, there are teams from all over the world but a different class overall.

What makes it easy in Headis (in my eyes of course, not that I am that big of a sports person) is that you can use the actual table to support yourself reaching harder shots (something not allowed in ping-pong). Again, I am sure its much harder than it looks, it just lacks the technique and diversity of shots/moves for me.

I do agree that all those athletes in sepak takraw are real beasts. It's just crazy hard to make those kinds of shots.

I was surprised at how Headis players were allowed to not only hold on to the table, but slide up on the table as well. The tables themselves look like they're reinforced (thicker). Again, there's no way I could compete with those people either.

Between the two sports, of course sepak takraw requires more athleticism, but they're both fascinating to watch.

This got me thinking. What other regional sports are out there that our members either watch or participate in?

I can think of another - ever heard of Petanque?
Its a French one if I'm not mistaking, not sure how popular it is outside of its colonies but many former french descendants play it.

Reminds me kind of a Curling but without the brooming and ice. More in the terms of having to put a ball closest to another object in a target. We played something similar on the streets when we were kids, but with small glass marbles.

The actual sport gets a tad boring to watch after a while but the players there have amazing accuracy which keeps your interest for a while.
