If you build your own servers, where do you get the parts and why? What places do you know of to buy parts to build your own servers?

Hey Gordy...Pleasure to meet you online after a long time and answering to your posts

Regarding hardware for our servers I normally go with www.FeaturedServers.com. They have awesome rates and plus they are in Canada

Because Im in Belfast, there is really no need to buy server hardware for co-lo.
Theres one datacentre here (Within about 50 miles at least, I dont know of any others around) and thats private so I cant co-lo in that

http://www.featuredservers.com doesnt look to bad at all.

I am kind of worried about the price though.... Getting a Pentium4 2.66ghz processor + 1024MB Registered ECC memory, 80GB hard drive and more for $1081???
Thats damn cheap. The 2U cases we normally get are $300. Pentium4 2.66 will run us about $150 + intel server board $250 + adaptec scsi card $229 + 73GB seagate scsi $289 + 1GiGE nic $79 it gets rather pricey.

I order my parts from distributors including techdata.com, dandh.com, synnex.com

If anyone needs parts just ask It normally takes 2-3 days shipping to geth them.

You can get really cheap servers at http://www.colomachine.com too

[b]<< If you build your own servers, where do you get the parts and why? What places do you know of to buy parts to build your own servers? >>[/v]

I, personally don't build the servers for my company. I have another company build them. I know of three companies to build servers, one company near me, another small company in England and of course, FeaturedServers.

<< Regarding hardware for our servers I normally go with www.FeaturedServers.com They have awesome rates. >>

I also use them for 99% of my servers, very good service I feel so far. Certainly will use again in the future.
Love the fact I can lease and pay a monthly fee for my servers, cuts prices down a lot when you're ordering over 40 servers.

You forgot to elaberate why you didnt go with them

I purchase all my parts from distributors around the USA. I dont like buying pre-configured machines. because in order for me to know my hardware the best I need to build it.

I get my hardware from www.techdata.com www.synnex.com www.dandh.com and occassionaly get memory from zipzoomfly.com

We are considering going with FeaturedServers. Could you please let us know your experience and why you decided not to go with them?
