What do people think of the new redhat that you know have to pay for? From what I've heard, it's quite unstable so far

I have seen a lot of companies posting about it being very unstable, even quite big companies who really know what they are doing, and thats after they had it up for testing.

I have an account on a RHE server and I havent had any problems with that but its not a server I own and I dont have root on it so I dont know how it performs but I havent had any problems being a customer on it anyway

Sounds similar to what my host said. They ran it for testing and it ran fine. When they copied accounts across it became very unstable.

RHE has some kernel problems, but from what i know this only affects Dual Xeon servers (buy Opteron ). Many people had problems because of this. I knew there were some ways to temporarly fix it. This will probably be fixed with the new kernel versions.

Moved the thread, seems better for this forum

I heard the same thing, but it's getting more stable as development goes about.

I'm using it on both my servers and I can't say any of the problems I have had was related to that, but then I have someone that is more experienced taking care of upgrades and security, I like the operating system though. Freckled

Well, RHE is OK, i would prefer rh9 over it. Fedora isent stable at all. Currently i have been helping my clients migrate over to freebsd.

Is that migrate from RH Steve?
I think since RH brought out RHE and changed to Fedora its caused a lot of confusion with so many options available and people dont know which to use, and that could even make people go with another OS.

I have never tried FreeBSD but would like to give it a try sometime.

What do you think is the most stable OS available now Steve?

Been using RHEL since Dec and no issues with the OS. The server is actually faster. I also do compatability testing at work with RH AS 2.1 and RHEL AS 3 and no issues there either.

I can also vouch for RHEL. We've only had the server a little over a month, but it runs very smooth with no problems so far. I do agree that it does seem to run a little faster, but then again I could just be imagining things.

Sure RHE is faster, but there is tons of compatablity issues, same with fedora. FreeBSD in my opinion is the most stable, and it is indeed faster then RHE.
