In CPanel there's a lovely section called "Statistic Log Configuration" where I have been presented with 3 big red X's on all *nix hosting providers I have been with.

Let's say I wanted my own configuration for AWStats (OK, I admit - it's not really hypothetical... I really do want my own configuration!) - what would a web host have to do to enable this? Are there any reasons a host would not want me to have my own configuration?

(On a side note - could I get the stats to update more frequently than the current 24 hour period?)

Thanks in advance.

This is possible on Windows... but I would have to look in to this on cPanel as I am not 100% sure on this one. We have a few clients with custom configs on AWStats. Feel free to drop me a PM if you want me to look further in to this one.

I dunno - it's kinda a "nice to have" so I don't want to waste anyone's time. It's just that my site gets a lot of hits from a user agent I wrote (a little taskbar app) and it'd be good to add these hits as a known browser rather than "unknown".

On Windows it's easy enough to just edit the main config file for robots and add the entry. I would have to read up about cPanel though. Never done it on there before.

I think it would be just as easy on *nix - just a config option - the problem is that I'd have to have my own installation (or the host would have to add the user agent to everyone's AWStats)
