I'd say just give up on your venture right now and only attempt it again when you have the capital to build up from scratch or do major renovations to your facility.

I'm not even sure how they managed to coax a company to give them fiber to their house since its a residential area.

These days a T1 will not suffice so good luck with your venture. I wouldn't recommend it.
Most actual T1's are copper not fiber... (and antiquated by today's standards) they've been around a lot longer than fiber has. As someone who has had a T1 at the house before, I can tell you the local tel company loves it. They get paid for the dedicated loop. You put up the check, they'll be happy to install it.

I remember seeing some homes with T1's in the more so on the west coast than the east coast, but the prices that Quest and so on would charge were kind of insane at the time too, the net was damn quick though.

I did a search on youtube and I found lots of people running DC out of there house. I wonder how many of them run a web hosting business. I myself would like to own my own DC but thats a long time from now and I wouldn't have it in my house.

I guess it really comes down to what a person calls a DataCenter. Much like what determines a Web Hosting Business.

Running a SERVER out of a house is one thing, but a data center is much different.

I just saw the videos you were referring to on Youtube. I'm pretty sure the bills must be very high. I wonder what kind of connection they are running though.

what search terms were used on youtube?

I did a few searches but didn't come up with much. I did find a guy who setup his gaming computer with multiple servers, but his lack of cooling will surely cause issues later!

Yes, I just searched for home datacenter. Not much results but the video page links to other relevant content. Some of the setups are pretty cool but it basically just looks like a hobby than it does building an actual home datacenter.

well I found some guy on there with what looks like a rats nest for wiring, maybe 4 servers, ZERO Cooling (other than an AC unit installed on the wall) and that was about it. Anyone going the cheap route, hey, have at it. I wouldn't trust it as far as I can throw it

I've actually got about 80 1U servers in my garage here (took them out of service, now I'm stuck with them). I have 3 slaved for my gaming system, and I use a couple for server testing, and another for music - but there's no way I'd open it to the public to run an operation out of here.

wow 80 servers that's a lot to just have hanging around. Must of took a long time to accumulate all those servers.

Well to start with, you are going to have a lot of issues getting a proper internet connection for servers in a rural area. You can try getting one from your ISP but they aren't going to like it(or it's just going to cost you A LOT)
