I feel that AVG free antivirus in the recent time, although is not bad compare to others antivirus softwares.

I use QuickHeal antivirus. It gets updated as soon as the recent update is available. It gets updated automatically when the machine is online or connected to internet.

I really like QuiclHeal antivirus.

One of the great antivirus software is NOD32 antivirus system by eset. It has helped in finding numerous viruses which some of the other antivirus programs failed to find out. I tested it for few systems and later on became a great fan of it. I recommend it a lot.

I was using, Avast home edition, but it seems to be not so secure, later i switched to the McAfee, well my pc is secure now.. i suggest to use linux os which is really trouble free from virus problems, like windows.

My vote is for McAfee. If the system files are affected, it used to quarantine instead of removing from its normal location. In most of the case, it wont delete the file.

if your are victim of a virus, you can go with Linux. Linux is virus free operating system.

Avira is sure a good pick for free anti virus, but for real protection, you'll need a full security suite with a good firewall.
In my opinion, Comodo internet security suite is the best AV out there and it is free. I've used Bitdefender, AVG, Kaspersky, norton, McAfee, Avast!, Avira, Nod32 and I can say Comodo internet secuirty suite is the best of all.
What I like about it is its scalability to adjust t just like you want it and it uses low resources
