My server is running exim and I have one customer that is has a problem where his firewall blocks the incoming IDENT packets rather then responding to them. This is causing him to have to increase his timeout on his email client.

My question is how important is it to have the rfc1413_query_timeout enabled? It seems strange that even after the time out it allows the end user to use email, it just adds a dely if it gets no response.

Thanks,

Hi Curt,

Ehm ... wouldn't it be easier for your clients to open his/her port? Also, most of the time I found out that some ISP might block certain ports (25) and force their clients to use only their domain authentication.
