Just wanted to keep the community updated with what's happening on the kitchen.

Conor from www.HandsOnWebHosting.com, our web hosting provider and partner, has informed us that HostingDiscussion.com backup server will be moving its location and getting an upgrade.

A quote from his message (some details omitted): "The chances that you'll notice anything are about a million to one, but I felt I should still alert anyone to it.

We'll be increasing the backup frequency on the machine and the storage life of the backups. The new system will be backing up every 30 minutes. Stored for a period of 48 hours. We'll have daily backups stored for 14 days, and a weekly backup stored for 8 weeks.

This gives plenty of time that should there be a data corruption that we can go back a few hours, a few days or a few weeks if necessary!"

I think for any active and dynamic website that consistently growing, changing and evolving, it is imperative to have this kind of real time data protection. I remember how surprised I was to see no backups were available during the recent WHT crash. Consequently, real time backup became one of the main factors for our partnership with HandsOn, which, by the way, came in handy on at least a couple of occasions.

It has already been at least a few months since we've been hosting with them. I was meaning to write a detailed review for a while (will try to write one soon), but I am really happy that our community is getting consistent attention and care from HandsOn. So far they have been doing a phenomenal job.

Cheers.

Thanks for the post. Sounds like Conor and HandsOn is treating HD well indeed.

Can't ever be too careful when it comes to backups.

That's correct. Ever since HostingDiscussion moved to Hands-on for the web server backups have been a crucial part to how things are operating. We've always had the hourly, daily, weekly and monthly backups, but we've now added in backups every 30 minutes, and storing those for 48 hours (on top of the normal backups).

The more backups to choose from, the better/safer things are here at HD. The extra backups in the 30 minute block produces no significant load on the server which is why it was implemented.
