Can you make this list public? I mean if the community does a good search maybe we can all help find solutions to these problems. I'm willing to go a sleepless night after all

Of course. I will make this list public and we can all come to a decision together as a team.

Even if the forum doesn't upgrade to 3.5.0 shouldn't you update to atleast to the latest 3.0.xx Legacy?

There has been a few security hole bugs reported and resolved after the current version HD is running on (3.0.1).

Why not just use good ole' phpbb? I've used them for about 4 or 5 years now. Never had a problem with them. They also have a very nice point/shop feature.

I also agree with whoever said that if its not broken, don't mess with it. I currently run phpbb2.0.17 and on the 31st .18 came out with some upgrades. Well, thats all fine and dandy but I have over 30 mods installed on our bored, some very big ones that will be hard to redo again. So, I'm just sticking with .17. Maybe when Olympus comes out...

Don't convert though, that'll be a pain for you guys.

You are joking right? With all of the wonderful PHPBB exploits you are telling them to switch the phpBB over a much more stable product such as VBulletin. There have been a lot of exploits found in both all of the forums out there (more for phpBB than anything else) and when we say if it isn't broken don't fix it, can we not also just state that we are pretty much opening ourselves and our servers to hackers?

You MIGHT REALLY want to READ THIS:

As with all new releases we urge you to update as soon as possible. You can of course find this download available on our downloads page. As per usual four packages are available to simplify your update.

Hey Art,
UShop & UCash is what HD is using correct? It is now available for 3.5.0 . Installation can be completed via the plugin system. I've been trying to find hacks that people have mentioned in the thread here to see if there are any ones that are not available.

No. HD is using 'Store Hack 1.0 Beta 3.1 - Yoshy and TheMayhem'.

There's no doubt that there are an increasing number of 'products' (not 'hacks' as no PHP code modification is necessary with the vB 3.5 series). The debate is whether to upgrade simply for the sake of upgrading. If there's no need to upgrade, why should we?

I just upgraded our company forums to VB 3.5.2 from 3.0.7. I can only state that it was easy and that I have noticed one huge advantage.

The forum itself loads almost instantaniously and the response from 3.5.2 is faster in regards to replies and such. With the old forum it loaded slightly slower. This is an advantage without a doubt that may overcome doubts (the faster the page loads, the more likely the client will view it and browse around after all). Also uShop is under development for 3.5.x series along with uCash. Almost all of the hacks for the 3.x series seem to be converting over especially with the holidays coming (more free time for people perhaps?)

Played around with some plugins and all I can say is...the plugin system will make administration easier and hack upgrades a breeze .

I don't doubt that the new version carries certain advantages. The question is - do we really need it today?
With so many things on our plate already, I would like to leave this challenge for the new year.

Best,

Not today of course . The systems has some things that make moderating and administration a whole lot easier and well we were basically contemplating advantages versus disadvantages and I'd thought I'd share some more advantage .
