This is a very interesting project.

How many click-throughs to do you deliver every day? (approximately)

Best,

We have usually a 0,8-1% click-thru, as the audience is highly targeted.
Of course this rate is an average based on the best results.
This is on the 180x150 bottom left banner.
We don't have actually statistics for the other media as they were lately launched (as you can see we don't have actually any 460x68 top banner).
Anyway, we are expecting a lot from the Toolbar advertising we recently launched. Actually more than 2000 were downloaded and we are waiting for the first test campaign to check how it works.
That's also why we practiced special launch prices.

Anyway, if you are trying to promote a loan service or some medicament shipping, i am sure this rate will playing with 0%.
At last the best days are in the Middle of the week, the worst are Saturday and Sunday.

Hope this answered to your question.
Regards,

HostSeeker,

The CTR is clearly standard high for a tech related web site. But is there any estimation on the number of actual clicks users make on listings per day/week/month? That includes bidding positions.

Also, what are the ways that you promote your web site? Do you use any mass-generating traffic programs?

Why I'm asking is because if you were to create a category for webmaster-related web sites, I might sign up either for free or for bidding positions. That, however, depends on how many clicks you generate daily or over a certain period of time.

Best,

I was editing my post when you replied to it.
I guess you didn' got all the facts i added.
We have a powerfull advertising tool that report us all the statistics possible.
As said:
We got last month an Average of 0.46 % CTR on the Front Page 180x150 Banner.
BUT IN THE MEANTIME
We got 0.71 in the Budget Category and 4.71% in the Dedicated category.

However, we do not use any Mass-generating traffic program, we did an attempt 1 year ago. The only one. It was a bad advertising for us, we lost money and above all we received a few spam-complaints. Our traffic is only manually generated, thru forums or thru our affiliates network and referrals.

At last we are opened to any suggest, but i should say that i don't really understood your request about a Webmaster-related web site category... can you devellop a bit?

I have a few more questions if you do not mind.

But first I will try to explain what I tried to offer. Just like your Budget, Ecommerce or Dedicated category, if you were to open a "Webmaster" category that would list just webmaster-related web sites, I would list my sites there and if traffic and its conversion are great, I would even bid for top positions. Hope this makes it more clear.

Your toolbar advertising is an interesting offer, but would like to hear your commentary on the following:
(a) Could you please share with us if there is any way to tell how many of those over 2000 downloads are actually active daily users?
(b) A 2-second rule: are our ads will just be displayed 2 seconds? How is that enough even to grasp the advertising message?

Finally, what is the current traffic of your web site? Not interested in hits, but Unique Visitors and Page Views.

Thank you and Best,

You are welcome to ask Artashes,

This topic about a "webmaster" category was added to my list for the next brain-storming we will have, i will let you know about the answer.

About the Toolbar advertising:
(a)- Actually there are no way to know how active are the users of this toolbar. Never the less, we are requiring the original Flash file, to integrate it into the Toolbar remote flash file and add into it a tracking link. Only clicks thru the Toolbar will be reported. As said, it is not an agressive advertising, as it stay passive on the user's desktop or IE menu bar. Anyway, we are still in test period and that why we fixed the launched price to 2$/day independently to the number of impressions and/or clicks.
(b) It was not easy to explain this point. Actually we fixed a 2 seconds FAIR rules. It doesn't mean that your advert will be shown only 2 seconds on the toolbar. As there is only one 105x22 space to manage these adverts we will rolling them. Depends on the number of adverts we will get (and be sure we will limiting the numbers of subscriptions) the process will runing as follow (it is our actual steps, may change in the future):
- HostSeeker logo will appearing between each adverts.
- Each adverts have to be 2 seconds per views.
- a minimum 1 seconds pause between each message.
and so on....
In other words, you will share the adverts time with all other advertisers on this space.
now let's say that our Beta custommer stay connected and surf with its IE during 2 hours.
2 hours are 7200 seconds. Let's imagine that there are 2 advertisers on this space +1 (Hostseeker default logo). 7200/3= 2400 seconds per advertisers. You don't have to forget that there is a 1 seconds pause between each adverts, 2400-800=1600 seconds of advertising. In other words, and in this case, your advert will be showed 800 seconds (13,33 minutes) per hour. Now think, there is 100 toolbar users connected and you will have your adverts 13,33 minutes/hour on 100 desktop.
We are also looking to improve the feature of HostSeeker, and related to this, of our toolbar to turn it into a must have for our customers/members.
Another step will be for the advertiser to download/install this toolbar to check how efficient their adverts are on it.
I hope i answered clearly your questions.
Don't hesitate to ask further if you have still some unclear points.

Regards,

Yes you answered it very clearly, thank you. However, I would recommend to increase the 2-sec rule to at least 20 seconds. Look at MSN messenger or other similar messengers that display ads. Ads are up there for 30 seconds at least. Give enough time for users to study the ad and click. I just don't think there is enough time for a user to move his mouse and try to click the ad within 2 seconds. Especially if they are on an important page and don't want to leave it immediately. Decisions to click are not reached that fast.

This is just feedback.

Best,

I agree with you Art.
A person needs time to assimilate the information in an ad.
If it changes after 2 seconds and there are several ads people may not have the patience to wait around for it to show again.

You are right Art.
We develloped your idea this evening during the workshop and we will apply it NOW.
The advert limit will be 20 seconds with a 2 seconds pause between each.

To provide you another feedback, we didn't kept actually the idea of a "webmaster" category, but it doesn't mean that it won't happen. We decided to devellop an online sugest tool, where visitor will be able to suggest new category. Thru this, and if we have enough request, we will then allow creation of new category.

Thanks anyway for your interrest.

Glad to see you implement some changes. I would be looking closely at how effective your first campaign works out.

Good luck with sale,
