Server Surgeon’s 24/7 On-Call Server Monitoring and Administration Service is for companies that cannot afford server downtime and require 24/7 monitoring and emergency administration response to outages. Businesses that use our service often times have their short and long term revenues directly tied to the availability of their servers and therefore require constant monitoring and uptime.

Our SLA (Software Licensing Agreement) promises that we will investigate and respond to any alerts we receive within 15 minutes; however, our average response time is less than 5 minutes.

The monitoring software we use is one of the most advanced server monitoring packages available and includes both internal (installed on your server) and external (installed on our server) checks, including:
  • Server up check via ping
  • Disk Utilization on all drives (alerts after preset threshold)
  • Number of processes running (alerts after preset threshold)
  • Check for Zombie processes (alerts after preset threshold)
  • Check for CPU hungry processes (alerts after preset threshold)
  • Internal on-the-box checks for all services including:
    • ftpd
    • sshd
    • mysqld
    • named
    • httpd
    • crond
    • syslogd
    • smtpd or qmaild
    • xinetd
  • External off-the-box checks for:
    • http
    • smtp
    • ftp
    • ping
  • Any custom checks to meet your requirements
Upon receiving an alert from our monitoring, Server Surgeon will act on your behalf to restore services to a working order. This may include freeing up disk space, restarting your web server, requesting a reboot from your service provider, etc.

Most issues we run into can be resolved without any interaction with you. However, we do require escalation numbers to contact you when we require information or direction in what to do during an emergency. For instance, if a server is irreparable, we may need your assistance in procuring a new server or providing direction otherwise.

The service starts at $75 per month for each server, and includes up to one hour of emergency system administration services. Additional hours and related administrative services can also be purchased from us. We do not charge for false alarms.
