You know what I mean. When you purchase a domain name on Go Daddy, you would have to go through tons of offers before you can proceed to checkout. It really is a turn of for me.

I am not sure how GoDaddy's checkout process has anything to do with suggestive selling.

The solution is very simple. If GoDaddy turns you off, don't register domains through them. NameCheap does a much cleaner checkout, for example.

Yeah, if you ask me; godaddy is evil for lots of reasons. (Remember SOPA?) Go with another registrar Westpoint.

Yeah, I remember about Go Daddy temporarily supporting SOPA. I used to register domain names with Go Daddy because they always sell domains at discount prices. Thanks Art for the advice. I agree with you about Namecheap.

Namecheap all the way, I've used go daddy once before and never again. They have a long checkout process you have to go threw advertisements or what ever it is. Namecheap is good because they give their clients what they want which is an easy checkout process and overall great service.

I don't mind when a merchant suggests other similar products or addons related to the product that I'm already purchasing, during checkout.. What I do mind is having to decline 15+ offers and addons (most totally useless and unrelated to the base product) when all I'm trying to buy is a domain name.

GoDaddy may know how to get sales and generate income as a company (I'll give'em that), but they sure as heck have a lot to learn when it comes to knowing what their customers want and like, and how to keep them happy (IMO)..

They're not interested in keeping you happy, they want to take as much money off you , preferably for items you dont need and wont therefore use, as possible

Well said. Experienced users may have no issue with that as they almost always know what they want to buy. But newbies can easily fall into the tricks and buy what they don't really need.

It's not called Suggestive Selling, it's called Upselling. Upselling is something that EVERY company should be doing. When McDonald's asks "would you like frys with that?", that's upselling. GoDaddy does the same thing.

You buy a domain name - would you like hosting with that?
You buy hosting - would you like backups with that?

This is common practice and is something that every company should be doing. I'm not saying you need to have 10 pages of "would you like this", but if you're not at least doing some sort of upsell, you're not taking advantage of the opportunity.

I've always used GoDaddy or resellers of GoDaddy because I'm pretty sure they're not going anywhere. Does their checkout process annoy me - sometimes when all I want is a domain. Their support of SOPA and Parson's hunting expeditions has turned me against GoDaddy, though and I just can't support them anymore. I just looked at Namecheap and it appears they upsell as well - I'll have my first opportunity to try them tomorrow.

I've been using Namecheap for years.
They are an Enom reseller.
No issues at all over the years.
