No worries in subdomains or subfolders harming your rankings. There is an ongoing discussion about which one might be better though. It seems that the Google algorithms have different metrics for domains and subdomains. Which is why it might be a slightly better idea to use subfolders ( xyz.in/jkl ) instead of subdomains ( jkl.xyz.in ). A few months ago MOZ did an experiment and moved their Beginners Guide from a subdomain to a subfolder and actually experienced a good rise in rankings. Just some things to consider, but either ways would not hurt you.
