Since Google apparently fired much of the staff for Google+, many SEO sites are saying this is yet another Google bust, especially since they've deleted much of the business information located on those pages. I know a number of SEO firms spent thousands of hours optimizing those listings at a huge expense. What's your current take on Google+

This is the first I hear about the staff being fired, but I can't say that I'm surprised. I know Google expected + to blow Facebook out of the water, but that really didn't work as planned since most people (myself included) keep using Facebook instead.

It's a bummer for those that did invest considerable time and money in Google+.. I guess, they just have to accept it and deal with it, because Google obviously doesn't care about them.

While I accept that Google+ is really failing to mount any meaningful challenge to Facebook for influence, They still offer a minimal edge when it comes to SEO for companies. My take would be not to invest unreasonably into Google+ but not to give up on it completely.

I've been using is very minimally, I'd be interested to hear others experiences with it.

I hate how hard Google makes it to claim your own profile though, It's so over done compared to twitter for example who make it easy.

I was one of those people who was excited about Google Plus. The way it was built, its features and even the original interface was something that I enjoyed.

I wasted no time in trying to recruit my friends to switch over to Google as well (the effort that didn't go anywhere). It seemed like every time I would visit the resource, unlike Facebook, I would learn something new (given that I could follow interesting people who turned to Google Plus as their blogging platform of choice). So yes, I opened pages for my business as well.

While the resource has lost its charm through about a million and a half changes to UI and decreased interest, I still find amazing that some regular folks (entrepreneurs and some journalists) still manage to attract followers by hundreds of thousands.

As jkateega mentioned above, Google Plus is still there. Maintain your page for free or minimal cost, but don't go overboard. As long as it exits, it will continue to serve as an advantage to SERP. My .

One tough question for Google to answer. There are many people who built a huge following on that network. Me thinks it isn't going away completely. It might migrate into something new (including new branding), but I don't see them getting rid of that massive data-feeding tool.

Google+ was just not a preferred social networking site, right from the beginning and it obviously never took off. I prefer Twitter and FB.

I guess Google wanted to stand between mainstream social media and Blogging and offer the best of both unfortunately the world did not want to know LOL

Never really been big on the social media marketing method. I keep getting told we need to do something along those lines. When I do - I think I will add Google +, it's still a good backlink to our site afterall.

Maybe that explains why this last 6months its been so much harder to get support or for changes to update.

This was an interesting take on Google+ by CNN Money last July. And another by Mashable.

Another dead Google Project. I agree with cheapdedicated here. Totally giving up the pages would be a bad idea. Investing too much time and money here also is.
