See, that's exactly the problem. The original question was asking for good forums. When people just post everything that's out there that points at relative size - it doesn't at all mean that a forum is good. Most communities on your list are neither popular, nor they are good. They are filled with spam and aren't moderated.

Even as a hosting business trying to earn a little exposure through social media, you aren't going to yield any benefit by participating on a dead community simply because there aren't anyone of value visiting or participating on it.

I have a forum that is not hosting related. i spent 4 days going through all members and must of clearly 80% of the members as being spammers. the forum was getting an average 20 new members per day, now i have it set that new members must be approved by admin, the 20 a day new membership has now come to 2 or 3 a month

WebhostingTalk.com is still the dominant Webhosting Forum as of now.

Another popular one is www.lowendtalk.com, but that one is targeted towards very low cost solutions only (VPS and dedicated for the most part). Owned by a hosting company powerhouse.

Out of those you listed:

http://***************** - weak activity, if you look through the forums. Same story with webhostingforum.com

https://www.webhosting.uk.com/forums/ - not an independent forum, owned by a hosting company.

http://www.hotwebhostingtalk.com/ - dead.

www.webhostingtalk.com.au/ - focused on Australian market/providers

There used to be close to 25 web hosting forums back 4-5 years ago. But forums isn't an easy business and requires time commitment and experience. Most of the forums like HostHideout, WebHostingChat, WebHostingWorld, HostNode, WHMTalk and a bunch of others closed shop due to spam, shills and just lack of time from their owners.

Out of those still existing I can add the following to the list:

www.sgwebhostingtalk.com - focused on Singapore market/providers

www.tophosts.com/forums - but overrun with spam in Epic proportions.

http://forums.hostsearch.com/

http://www.hostingforum.ca/forum/

http://www.datacentertalk.com/forum/

The last three exist, but I didn't have the time to check if their content is also compromised by shills/spam or how the activity level is.
Thanks for thе wide information. I personally find it very detailed and very very useful. Will look at those places for sure

Stay away from Web Hosting Talk.

Some rogue moderators have kidnapped the site to their will and while some here say WHT is not related to any hosting company. That is not true for the moderators. The moderators have their own hosting related business which they try to hide. That alone is a big conflicts of interests.

In particular the moderator Bear which has a related hosting site which he will not disclose. This also the reason they never sign anything with a name or signature, not even on support tickets with their customers (not even paid members).

Web Hosting Talk is dropping in activity exponentially. The active users have dropped to a bottom low. You don't see the strong brands that where actively participating before. The quality of topics and users have drastically decreased. I assume some are gone because they don't get along with the moderators, some don't see any value in most topics anymore or just found better alternatives where to spend their time.

And if you read some complaints. Some members even paid subscription's, they get their cards charged, but never receive anything in return. No upgraded accounts, nothing, nada. It seems its a sinking ship if they don't even care about their paid members subscriptions anymore.

If you check all the posts in WHT that still send them traffic, they are mostly old topics accumulated over the years, not really new members.

You could assume this is because the hosting market is shrinking, but yet you see sites like this one, getting more new activity than WHT.

I clearly remember reading the rules that WHT established for those interested in becoming a moderator. If you owned, worked for or volunteered for a web hosting company, it would disqualify you from such an opportunity.

We've always adapted the same rule here. When it comes to moderating duties, which often includes editing someone else's posts, issuing warnings or infractions, I think for a community such as this, it is a good way to retain neutrality and avoid bias. (I know that it can be done properly and I've seen it work before elsewhere, but for HostingDiscussion the rule has always been set in stone.)

I haven't followed up on that rule in years, it might have been changed. However, what you are saying is a pretty sizeable claim. How did you learn that they run a hosting business on the side? Do you know which one (you can share it here if you'd like)? But I also think that it'll be a conflict of interest only if they favour that business through direct recommendations and sales pitches. Is this something that they do?
