The control of blogger is limited while with Wordpress you can tune your blog with your imagination as limit! Wordpress takes the advantage of an open source platform, this mean that you can use a lot of SEO plugins which will give you a boost!

You may also note that statistics and visualization of traffic is a little bit on blogger than on Wordpress.

Wordpress is much more popular as compared to Blogspot nowadays. You can also customise wordpress websites with awesome designs and plugins to boost your SEO/SEM efforts.

Wordpress is still by far the standard right now.

WordPress is better than blogger because with WordPress you can add new features and plugins to your blog and get better control over it. But these facilities is not available with blogger.

How often do we see Blogspot even mentioned currently? WordPress has far surpassed Blogspot in popularity and effectiveness.

By that logic nobody should ever use a CMS of any kind and should use only static content...

Is this foolproof? No. That's why you should always have your own off-provider backups no matter who your provider is or what they promise.

My personal blog is WordPress - company blog is WordPress. It's a solid platform IMO.

WordPress is a solid platform. Sure, it has vulnerabilities that do come up but there is also an active and fast development team staying on top of things as they're reported.

If vulnerabilities are causing issues for you as a hosting provider then you must be doing something wrong. I'm not saying you're not going to host a compromised WordPress site but you shouldn't get enough compared to sites running just fine to make that statement.

In my opinion Wordpress is going to be the better option in 95% of cases. The only exceptions would be if someone doesn't want to self host (they could of course use Wordpress.com) or have no time to put towards managing the site.

This could be said for any popular script online as the hackers are going to scan for sites using popular scripts, then try to run known vulnerabilities against those scripts. By far, the biggest issue with using WP is lazy webmasters that do not update their WP install, plugins and themes, and those that flock to free themes and plugins from sketchy sites that have back doors already built in. With the popularity of installer scripts that can be set to auto-update as well as the ability to actually check a box in WP to now auto-update you'd see far fewer issues if people would actually do this or pay attention and update themselves.

Both Blogger and WordPress are good choices as website building platforms. But...

Neither Blogger nor Wordpress "as is" will build an online business which you get if you know how to do SEO and build traffic. They are both missing a do-able start-to-finish BUSINESS process.

Surely, you can slog through the mountains of business building advice and tools that are out there. But for most Blogger and WordPress users it all ends up being too much.

So, despite the dazzling display of Blogger and Wordpress features (even SEO gadgets), the reality for most (non-tech) people who want to create a web business with Blogger or Wordpress is that they need to adhere to an easy-to-follow, all-in-one, proven, ethical webbusiness-building system (not a get rich quick scheme), tailored to say the WordPress platform, to get (1) a significant amount of traffic and get (2) targeted traffic (example of such a system: WealthPrinciples dot net).

Otherwise... you'll end up having (and building) only a Blogger/WordPress webSITE (or BLOG) but not a webBUSINESS.

Wordpress is very well documented, easy to use, it comes with plenty of available plugins and is totally free. I recommend it.

We use both / we use wordpress for one of our hosting web sites / love it - but as others have noted / sure you need to stay tuned to updates and be sure to update not only wordpress but all the plugins...

For a single blog / you can choose to the wordpress hosted version which is a paid solution or host it on your own hosting account.

We also use blogspot for one of our blogs that is quite popular / couple of them as a matter fact / but this is due to we also use from a personal standpoint the google eco system / both domain level and just based on our gmail account / so it is easy for us to login to one of our gmail accounts and lauch it by way of apps / and for this we do nothing for updates since it is hosted and maintained by google.

We have been doing all of the above for many years ... but this is just my story - But for flexability and super cool blogging templates / for sure wordpress will have the most flexibility.
