Guys , how was the experience with the google ad-words , I had used it one time but we didn't get much results as expected.. Is it good for business like webhosting. I think the keywords play here.

I used it many times and always disappoint with clicks and customer conversion.

I recommended you to purchase banner ad, etc in Web Hosting forums.

I am now trying HD Forum advertisement. If it will be good then I will share my experience.

Google Adword: Excessive competition in Web Hosting business, Fake clicks, Hosting company are targeted by other providers and they use bad tricks to eliminate you, etc issue.

Don't use them, very bad. You will just lose money and you will get no clients.

Buy banners on sites related to hosting or sticky topics on forums like this.

Google AdWords has done tremendously well for web hosting companies. There are so many ways to utilize AdWords. Without a large marketing budget, competing for keywords like "web hosting", "cheap hosting" or dedicated servers" would not only be inefficient, it won't produce much result. These are obviously the most expensive keyword searches.

However, if you diversify, or have any specialty hosting products, then using keywords like "your city web hosting" or "vbulletin hosting" will not only cost less, but you'll drive highly targeted traffic to your site on top of that.

And sometimes it isn't enough to just use these keywords, you need to create a relationship between an ad and your website. So if you offer vbulletin hosting, for example, and the ad states that, if someone clicks it, take that person to a specially designed landing page that talks about vbulletin hosting in particular and why your company is the best at it, among other details and perhaps a limited time special pricing. Make them believe that they aren't only getting exactly what they are looking for, but also getting a good deal on top of that.

So coming back to you. Can you share a bit how you used AdWords, to understand what might have been improved? What keywords did you go for? How long did you run the campaign for? What was the budget?

You definitely need a large budget to play in this field and you'll see horrible roi. My advice is to use long tail keywords with lower cpc to get higher ctr and better conversion.

My own personal experience;
You can do OK with $50 if you target correctly.
We've run $50/mo and $1500/mo campaigns (for web hosting specifically) and we pretty much got our return of investment within 60 days (client purchases 1 month, and renews the following month). Then it's a matter of keeping the churn rate low enough that your advertising dollars were spent well!

For us, we value EACH client at $1800 using the following math;
$30/month * 12 months * 5 years

Our average hosting cost for eCommerce was about $30/month and while we had an extreemly low cancellation rate, we still marked the lifespan as 5 years (many of our clients were 10+ years)

So, lets do the math;

With a $1500 spend in adwords, we needed 25 clients to signup and renew for 1 additional month. ($30 * 25 clients = $750) - so really, we needed ONE new client per day.

==================
When you actually break out the math, Adwords is one of the cheapest forms of advertising to BUYING prospects. Keep in mind, these are already BUYERS looking for services, now you just need to be better than the competition.

Cast a wide enough net, and you'll catch fish every time!

Adwords is awesome and can get you a lot of customers, but you have to setup you campaign the right way.

I have used Adwords several times with a success rate of 50 percent. It is mainly the keywords that you target and work with.

Dabbled in Google Ads without much luck. You'll probably need to tweak and try again, tweak and try again, before any success.

It is no doubt one of the best traffic sources around, but you have to understand that you are competing against the likes of Hostgator and Bluehost, these companies are spending around $100+ per click. If you have money to spend in 4 figures or even 5, then I suggest you give it a go.

I used it briefly without a great deal of success, although have clients that run their businesses on it and do fairly well....so will definitely come back to it in the future with a different approach

Having said this I do belive there are much more cost effective ways to produce better results
