My Experience with GoDaddy VirtualDedicated...

Well upon signing with GoDaddy two days ago I was aware of their sometimes longish support reply times and purchased expecting the usual 6-8hours wait for a reply. I wasnt really too concerned as there was a remote boot facility and the rest I could manage myself apart from hardware failure in which case 6hours to be back up is okay.

I paid which all went smoothly and about 5-6hours later my virtualdedicated was setup with my 3 Static IP Addresses. So first up was to secure the server...

I setup SSH to work on only one port and one ip address so I could use the other two for a dedicated hosting environment with no SSH security worries. I also use a third party dns provider to gain the obvious benefits in server load and security...

Now to setup my domain on the second ip (The first is used for only SSH as explained above). When using a third party dns provider you either need to have your provided IP range delegated to your DNS provider(not likely if you dont have a whole C class), or get your Hosting Provider to make reverse dns(PTR) entries in their own system for each ip address for you. Standard stuff eh????

Well here is my support request to them...

---------------------------------------------------
Hello,

Do you allow delegation of my three ip's to DNSMadeEasy as I use them
for my DNS?
If so could you advise me of the zone name details once completed....I
have included the nameservers for delegation below....
ns*.dnsmadeeasy.com ***.***.***.***
ns*.dnsmadeeasy.com ***.***.***.***
ns*.dnsmadeeasy.com ***.***.***.***
ns*.dnsmadeeasy.com ***.***.***.***
ns*.dnsmadeeasy.com ***.***.***.***

If you do not allow external delegation of IP's could I get you to make
the following reverse dns(PTR) entry for me...

Domain: mysite.com
IP: ***.***.***.***

Thank you...
--------------------------------------------------------

As expected they are not going to delegate a few ip's at a time out, but thats fine, I just need them to make a reverse dns entry at their end. Then everything reslolves just fine and my site would be ready to go....

GoDaddys reply about 12 hours later.....

(If you have a hot drink put it down because your going to fall off your chair when you read this...)

----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sean Thompson,

Thank you for contacting Online Support. We appreciate you taking the time to write us.

Unfortunately, this would not be possible, as we're unable to create or change a custom reverse DNS for you. While we are able to assist you with basic Plesk setup, Turbo Panel setup and/or basic navigation for your server, we are unable to troubleshoot this matter further.

If the source of the technical problem you are experiencing lies within systems or technology under our exclusive management, no charge will apply.

Examples of supported technical problems:
* Your server becomes unreachable due to a network failure within our facility.
* Your server becomes unreachable due to a hardware failure within our facility.
* The hosting service setup process failed to complete successfully.
* A root user password change request failed to resolve successfully.

Any administration issues beyond what is specified above are under your direct control.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help you.

Sincerely,

Michael Q.
Online Support Technician

ROFL!!! I have never had such an idiotic reply from a company supposedly with..... and I quote from their site....

"Our highly trained, courteous support staff is waiting to take your call. Whatever time it takes to assist you, that's the time you'll receive. We'll resolve any issue to your complete satisfaction. (And don't forget to ask about our call-in only special offers, too!)"

Why dont you just send me a picture of a monkey giving me the finger??? Would be exactly the same thing!!! No reply now for over 24hours so I called their 24/7 support number which said wait time was 0 minutes at the moment! ROFL even more!!! You know why there is no wait???? Because you cant get through... The number has been giving and egaged tone for over two hours now!

I have asked for immediate refund so will keep this thread updated with the next ridiculous reply I get

Hey Mr. Galaxy:

Thats not new with Godaddy =\ they've faced a lot of situations like this one, the staff is not well-trained for that kind of jobs. Also they don't pay enough to motivate the staff team to work hard. If in the future you need hosting just PM me I can provide you wonderful web hosting/dedicated server also. I'm very sorry about what happened to you =\ thats why I decided to start my own company time ago.

ahhh....GoDaddy, just google it out and you'll realize you are not alone. http://www.google.co.in/search?hl=en...ed%2Bbad&meta=

Seems underpaid overworked staff of GoDaddy aren't equipped technically or administratively to handle serious issues.

If you are buying an unmaged dedicated server, make sure that you know how to manage it. Dont expect godaddy to set up your DNS. They clearly mention that their resposibility ends at hardware/network and OS reinstallation. period.

This thread make me to rethink regarding the services of Godaddy, and also forcing me to do more research before taking the services from them.
