The Fedora Legacy project is being shut down.

FedoraLegacy

Is there any good alternative?
The OS isnt seure anymore as they arent releasing the security patches and updates from last 2 months

Keep your suggestions in

Is CentOS better than FreeBSD? or do you have any other suggestion?

CentOS is a great OS for servers, the best in my opinion. If you are used to Fedora, CentOS will be easier for you to use as it is also rpm based and uses the same commands.

The post when first reading it does sound like you are refeering to if Fedora (The OS) will be shutting down its just the site. Fedora Core 7 will still be released just for anyone who was confused like I was .

Well this project seems to be dated February 2007 so quite a late post

It might be easy/possible to compare one distribution with another, but I think it's fairly hard to say if FreeBSD (which is not Linux, for those newbies in here ...) is better than CentOS. FreeBSD is a whole different operating system than CentOS (or any other Linux distribution). So I think the answer is an answer nobody likes to hear: "it depends on..."

I wouldn't say a 'whole' different operating system Windows and CentoS are. Both use command prompt SSH. I do find FreeBSD irritating sometimes if you’re a complete novice at FreeBSD it can be a very good operating system since. Me personally, Debian

Well first of all, "SSH" is not a command prompt. It's a protocol used to remotely connect to a server and use its command prompt (for example). Off course you already know that, but I thought it was necessary to correct you

Second, it's not because Linux and BSD use the same command prompts over the same SSH protocol, that it's technically almost the same. Operating systems don't only differ in the way the user interacts with it, it also differs in other aspects such as: memory management, cpu scheduling, i/o requests handling, file systems, and many more different algorithms.

CentOs is a good operating system giving you possibility to use it easily. I've used it for a long while and like it.

On my personal servers which I'm running in my basement, I'm running openSUSE 10.2. Works great for servers, I must say. I tried openSUSE on my laptop/desktop once but that just didn't do it for me. Ubuntu <3 ! (when it comes to desktops...)

OpenSUSE is rather good for servers/VPS; very few providers do actually provide it. I'm running a couple of tests on OpenSUSE now as we speak however instead of my basement because I don't have one :p it's in the loft.

If you're switching from Fedora, I think centOS would be a great transition since they are both based on Red Hat. I like centOS for its tools and ease of use.
