Ok so I've had enough of my ISP and I'm going colo so as far as I can see I need:

- Couple of Rack mount servers 1 hosting+Mail, 1 for DB I could do all this one one machine but I dont think that would scale well)
- A Firewall/Switch (any recommends on this? Im currently using some NetGear thing witch seems OK has Dos and SPI, reasonably priced too)
- Software: Win2K, SQLServer and Merak or iMail
- Some cables to go from my Switch to the boxes

I'll handle Pri DNS on box 1 and Sec DNS on box 2 (any pointers on this on Win2K??)

So I stick the whole lot in a big box and ship it off to RedBus, get XYZNet to connect me up and log into terminal services client.

I'm budgeting about £5k to pay for it all and cover year one costs

Anything I've forgot? :?

Redundant bandwidth so your DNS servers aren't on the same network (Kind of)

Provided he has multi-routed bandwidth there should be no problem with keeping his entire operations within redbus, as they have enough contingency plans for power outages, security.etc .etc
That and they are the home of LINX .

thats pretty much it, although you might consider
do you need f/wall switch - or can you just run f/walling s/ware on each box ?

a xover cable so you can connect nic2 on each machine with local lan ip's 192.168.x.x - keeps the in-switch traffic down

multi-home/bgp4 data-transfer a must

find out about access to your kit 0 even if you dont expect to go, what are the procedures if you need to get into redbus ..

think about renting somespace ona NAS or external server for backups/archival

find out if you get remote reboot facilities - always useful
