I was curious if anyone would be interested in a step by step tutorial on how to build a 1U server properly. There are several things to take into consideration when doing so. Since I tend to build 1U servers I was going to come out with a website that had tutorials on each model 1U server that I build. Would this interest you?

I doubt I would use it to actually build a 1U server, but I would certainly like something like that as an overview to the sort of design and components that go into one.

YOu have a reader here, I can build computers and servers no problem but never actually tried a 1u which is small. Configuration tutorial for datacenter setups would be good. I plan to collocate this year a rack with cihost.

Let me know if you need help with this since your going to be paying crazy fees to colo servers there! I am near the CIHOST datacenter here in Los Angeles and will be buying a rack for myself in a few months.

Alright sounds good, I think I will go ahead and start taking pictures of the builds from now on and eventually setup a site dedicated to the server builds.

My only issue with DIY servers is that you have nobody to yell at when disks explode

What configurations will be included in the tutorial? I ask this because I read on toms hardware that its not a good idea to use scsi drives in 1U, but I have also seen it where you have enough fans (active cooling) you will not have an overheated box. Any thoughts?
