Hey everyone, i'm looking for a reasonably priced dedicated server. I would need a p4 2ghz + as minimal, probably 512ddr, hard drive isn't that crucial so 40gigs would be ideal.

I would need a decent connection, cpanel, firewall. Budget, looking for something around $100/month, I need a decent host with a great reputation for providing quality hosting and support.

Anyone who currently has their own dedicated server or any experience please let me know your recommendations!

You can get an unmanaged box from ev1 (www.ev1servers.net) for this sort of price.

There is a large amount of work and issues to deal with when running a server and if you're not happy to taking them on board I really suggest you invest more money and go for a fully managed option.

For $100 I can do a 'large' Reseller account - Fully managed on a P4 3.0 Ghz box running Direct Admin, kept up to date and fully patched and Firewalled by us, a direct phone line for support, monitored from 5 places around the world every 3 minutes on 5 protocols, with SMS alerts and emails to you and us - it's running RAID1 and backs up to a seperate server weekly - it includes customisable reseller accounts etc etc. It can back up nightly to a different server in a different datacentre but we'd need to talk about that

The box is in a Level 3 datacentre - they ARE the internet - so you'd be on the very best network on the planet. One of my Sysadmins has been running servers since the mid eighties and lives 40 minutes drive from the datacentre where some of our servers are co-located

The other servers (cheaper) are at EV1 - but if you're serious about making the move to a bigger account with better service, the best network architecture around the world and an Intel engineer on 24hr callout then give me a shout!
