What do you think of HE.net's connections and quality? What are your feelings? Any personal experiences?

I am looking to buy a dedicated server here but want some feedback first.

Well it is just to host a few tiny IRCd's for now..

AMD 2600+
1024mb ram
60gb hd
Unmetered 1mbps
$0 setup
$125 monthly

Also the thing I liked, was if I needed to or wanted to add more mbps, it is only ~$40 per each mbit which I thought was pretty good.

I, personally, think that Hurricane Electric is very good.
Their prices are very good, their network seems extremely stable, and lots of people use them on WebHostingTalk. Even companies such as Charge, some ice cream company and so on use Hurricane Electric. They have quite a lot of large clients backing them up, so I don't think they are too bad.

That is a very good price you got from them Gordy.
Let us know how it goes ok?

I have always heard that HE is one of the best. Maybe next year I will get one so I can target customers on the West Coast.

I went with FDCServers.net for IRC.. I got p4 2.4ghz, 1gb ram, 120gb hd, 10mbps burstable bandwidth.. $150 per month no setup..

VERY poor quality, do not go with them.. not worth your money at all.

Well, they are actually very good - however not the best, best, best. Not really better than Internap or even LayerOne.
However, H.E. is very good. Their prices are extremely good, at 100mbps you are charged $2,500 which is one of the cheapest. They seem to price their bandwidth at CogentCo prices to get lots of clients, and can go even cheaper if you order lots of bulk. However, bulk is bulk. I personally prefer the pricing method with LayerOne though - with H.E. your price also depends on what pipe you're on, with LayerOne; the more bandwidth the cheaper, no matter what pipe whether it be 100mbps or 1,000mbps, fiber, gige or anything.

Gordon, lol, I think everyone knows by now how rubbish FDC are. Yipes and CogentCo isn't always really that bad. I'm even talking with Yipes for bandwidth prices, although I'm going to also do multi-homed with Aleron which'd make it better. FDC are cheap, very cheap, and actually very good if you want a cheap server and want to learn linux and how to admin your server, however so is ServerMatrix with their cheapest server.
