Hello,

I am starting a remote backup solution, I have a 1U server being built.

I need colo in jacksonville, fl. I will need 24/7 access and here is the question.

How does the bandwidth work, 1mbps vs 100mbps will my backup software for customers see a diffrence or is it soely a bandwidth per month factor in this?

I have had trouble finding a colo here, I know we have peak 10, level 3 and colo4jax. But i am having trouble contacting them, and those who I have, have a lack of intrest in bothering with a 1U.

I'd apreciate the help

Thanks guys.

Curtis.

Good luck

Jax,

Not sure if you are still looking, but contact Ray from colo4jax.com. We do business with them and they have a good setup going.

I think what you are looking for is Burstable network connectivity.

For example, you get a guaranteed 1mbps (which equals XX Gigabytes of volume per month), however you are allowed to burst to 10 or 100mbps. The limitation would be that you cannot transfer more volume than the 1mbps would allow per month, otherwise you would be billed for overage per gigabyte.

I assume that is very tight for the VPS. At least 10mbs needed.

There are lot of providers offering cheap dedicated servers which is better than any VPS solution, in my view bandwidth may not be a big issue but it depends on the clients who are going to use this backup solution.

Check the companies offering 10Mbps unlimited bandwidth many are there.

Why do you have to colo in Florida?

There are many colocation companies that do offer colocation services for 1U size.

Since you are using it for backup, it is important you request a 100mbps port.
