Well If you are planning to pay lots of money on a VPS your better off doing that then paying a small amount for a dedicated machine. The reason why is because the VPS host machine is most likely quad core and you would be on that quad core.

I will choose dedicated servers because i have full control of the server.
VPS will share something with others, i don't like sharing my web secrets with others.

i prefer a low end dedicated personally. Just make sure you get it from someone reputable.

A dedicated server will be the best choice if you have the funds for it.
As Sari mentioned a VPS will be the best solution if you do not have the money for a dedicated server. You will have full root access with a VPS.

Base it on the specs, not the price. You can find nice servers with a decent price. But then you can find them not so good with the same price. Just watch what your buying. .

What are you planning on doing with the dedicated or vps?

I'd say go with expencive xen VPS, you get guranteed resources and the power to change your kernel, basically a dedicated server which can be reinstalled with few clicks without need to contact/wait for anyone.

definitely cheap dedicated server. VPS's are generally throttled and you'll feel it when the applications and usage gets heavier. And since you are sharing resources, its harder to predict which times of day the vps will be performing slower. Even the more expensive ones are over subscribed.

Hello,

I would have to go with a dedicated server. With the dedicated server I can do what I want with it and not have to worry about another VPS overloading the server causing issues for me and my clients.

I would probably choose an expensive, but managed VPS opposed to a cheap dedicated server. As long as the provider has plenty of experience and is reliable, I would feel better using the VPS.

VPS packages have come down significantly in price. If you find a good provider, you'll get better power for much less money.

Lots of "go dedicated" and lots of "go VPS" responses It's going to come down to a personal decision it looks like.

All I have to say about the VPS vs. Dedicated is this in regards to windows VPS solutions.

VPS can be a great and less expensive way to have a dedicated server type environment. My only advice is the solution the VPS is installed on. If the solutions allows overselling and shared resources (Minus CPU cores) I would not take that route however it is user preference. We have found that DotNetPanel and Hyper-V is much more stable environment. It doesn't allow over selling and the customer is granted the resources and they are not sharing or competing with the other users on the server (Except CPU Core Usage- Don't see a way around this, that would suggest a dedicated server if that were allocated to each user, we think just using a server with lots of cores has been successful for us in providing solid performance) . The stability seems to be fair superior and the customer VPS performs extremely well. I would say this is the closes thing to a dedicated windows server I have seen that is a VPS solution. Other nice thing is the licensing is shared through the servers core license so the cost to setup and run is almost half the cost of other VPS soltutions.

HyperVM & Xen seems to be a solid Linux solutions from our experience.
