Hi everyone, I need some help, I am about to order a VPS... But, I have NO idea what this is:
Hostname:
NS1 Prefix:
NS2 Prefix:
Root Password:
I am guessing like the hostname would be like myhostname.what.com, and I would use that to let other players connect to me through that IP?
I have no idea about the NS1 and NS2 :\
Root password is something like a master password?
I don't know so correct me if I am wrong

Brandon

NS prefixes is what you'd like your NameServers to look like. For example, you can choose either

NS1.yourdomain.com
NS2.Yourdomain.com
or
Server1.yourdomain.com
Server2.yourdomain.com
etc.

Traditionally people use NS1/2/3 for ease of remembering.

Root password is your master password to managing your VPS server.

Thanks, the site says I have to make them all... Name servers are like the DNS right? Also, what do I do with the name servers? The hostname is like server1.yourdomain.com and the NS1 and NS2 are NS1.yourdomain.com and NS2.Yourdomain.com. Do they connect through the hostname? I am pretty sure...

A name server is responsible for your site being found on the web as you point your domain name to these. When given a domain name, they return the IP address for that domain.

EDIT: Yes, DNS and NS is the same thing.

Hostname doesn't really matter. Pick whatever you want for it, but the NS is important. Sounds like this will be your first VPS, which is fine(welcome!!). I'd suggest going with a provider that offers "fully managed" services. That way they can help you with tasks you mite be clueless about right now.

Best of luck!

It really sounds like you're going to need a fully managed VPS system. A lot of VPS providers offer this as part of their plans. Good luck with your business.

Nameservers needs to be registered with your domain registrar and its ips should be the ones that is there in your server.

yes a managed server would better suite you until you get comfortable managing things on your own
